2012: Chinese Year of the Dragon And what it means for you

By Sue Bagust

Dragon years can bring fear of change with them. The year 2000 brought with it a lot of fear about the collapse of technology, when we expected that the Y2K bug would collapse every computer and make planes fall out of the skies. This Dragon year 2012 comes with fear that our interpretation of the Mayan calendar could predict the end of civilization as we know it.

Despite our fears, the Chinese dragon symbolises potent, benevolent power. Chinese dragons are wise, majestic and intelligent and Dragon years are auspicious for new beginnings, including business, marriage and children. Dragon years boost fortunes, both individual and shared such as the world economy. However, dragons also magnify whatever you put out, so they magnify both success and failure. You can call for huge achievement, or huge failure. The Year of the Fire Dragon causes the most havoc, but as this is a Year of the Water Dragon you can access calm, visionary intelligent action.

Water Dragons are peaceful, progressive and diplomatic, acting wisely and willing to set aside his huge draconic ego for the common good. If you believe that the Mayan calendar actually forecasts the dawn of a new era in 2012 rather than the Hollywood-hype eve-of-destruction scenario, you can see how the Water Dragon would help the momentum of a progressive movement around our world, encouraging energy conservation and green energy technology, addressing world hunger and the renewed health of the oceans.

Of all Dragon years, the Water Dragon is most likely to bestow the Chinese blessings of longevity, wealth, health and peace, doing good and enjoying a ripe old age.
